Alif International Montessori was established by a group of prominent businessmen from Dharga Town who identified the need for an English Medium School in the area.
Key figures involved in the school included former Chairman Mr. M.M. Nizam, Late Mr. M.Z.M. Zaheer, Mr. M.S.M. Faslan, and Mr. M.R.M.M. Hussain Sadique among other dedicated Directors.
The school’s concept was inspired by Mrs. Zulfica Marikar, who modeled it after the PRE-OSC branch of the Overseas School of Colombo, Sri Lanka’s oldest and only accredited International School. The initial teachers who played a pivotal role were Mrs. Insifa Imran and Mrs. Latheefa Faiz.
Under the efficient management of Mr. Haniffa, the school started with 50 students and rapidly grew to 100 within three months after its inauguration in January 2003.
The Montessori curriculum at Alif International includes practical life exercises, sensorial activities preparing students for mathematics, language studies, math lessons, art, music, physical education, drama, storytelling, and library usage.
Throughout the year, parents have the opportunity to witness their children’s progress through various events such as annual concerts, sports days, art exhibitions, math competitions, language-focused days, field trips, an Arabic cultural day, and an annual community service project during Ramadan where dry rations are distributed to the needy with the involvement of parents and children.
